What is the Green resort?

At a time when travellers are increasingly looking for natural, authentic and sustainable destinations, the Station Verte label is a benchmark for green tourism in France. But what exactly does this label mean, and why is it important for mountain areas such as Lake Geneva and the Chablais?

A national label at the service of nature tourism

Created in 1964, the Station Verte label is the first French tourism label dedicated to rural and mountain destinations committed to nature-based, humane and responsibletourism. It is awarded to communities that enhance their natural spaces, heritage, outdoor activities and quality of life, while welcoming visitors in a sustainable way.

What are the criteria for becoming a Green Resort?

To obtain this label, a municipality must fulfil a number of specific commitments:

  • Offer a well-preserved natural environment: green spaces, footpaths, lakes, forests, etc.
  • Offer outdoor activities: hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, supervised bivouacs, etc.
  • Promote its local heritage: architecture, crafts, traditions, local produce.
  • Welcoming visitorsingood conditions: sustainable accommodation, tourist services, cultural events.
  • Commit to the environment: waste management, water and energy saving, raising awareness of ecological issues.

Today, more than 500 communes in France have the Station Verte label, a guarantee of quality for travellers in search of authenticity.

The destinations around Lake Geneva and in the Chablais region boast exceptional landscapes, local know-how and a wealth of natural resources.

Some of these communes – Thollon-les-Mémises, Bernex, La Chapelle d’Abondance, St-Gingolph and Publier – have been awarded the Station Verte label, a recognition that fits in perfectly with the Leman Mountains Explore approach: helping people to discover the mountains in a different way, with respect for the area and its inhabitants.

The label also supports the development of a more responsible form of tourism, centred on the gentle discovery of the mountains: guided walks, nature bivouacs, wildlife observation, heritage visits, etc.

As a visitor, choosing a Station Verte means :

  • Supporting local tourism on a human scale,
  • Enjoying unspoilt, accessible countryside,
  • Discovering activities linked to the area,
  • Taking part in environmentally-friendly tourism.

In conclusion

The Station Verte label promotes sustainable, responsible and deeply human tourism. It embodies the values of respect, discovery and nature, values that Leman Mountains Explore shares on a daily basis through its activities.

By choosing a Green Resort, you are choosing to travel differently, to the rhythm of the mountains and the heart of living territories.
