Description

Savoie, a land of emigration, has seen its people build close-knit communities around the world. From 19th-century Paris to the Americas today, associations and mutual support have helped maintain ties with the homeland, through laughter, dancing, work and marriage.
Throughout history, Savoy has been a land of departures, transforming its people into builders of close-knit communities, from Paris to the Americas, via the deserts of the East. Join us on Thursday 8 October 2026 at 6.00 pm in the Salle de l’Atelier to rediscover this incredible human saga that has shaped our identity. Whether you’re curious about genealogy, passionate about local history or simply proud of your region, come and share this moment of exchange, dedicated to tradition and passing on our heritage. Discover how, from the seasonal exile of chimney sweeps to today’s international careers, the spirit of Savoie continues to shine far beyond our mountain peaks. Laurent Rigaud, president of Savoyards du Monde and a Knight of the National Order of Merit, returns home after 41 years abroad to share with us his passion for the history of Savoyard emigration.
