A fascinating story
The park’s origins date back to the 1970s, when the first pair of fallow deer, a gift from Arthur Lavy, then President of the General Council, arrived in the village. Initially housed in the centre of the village, the animals were moved to their current location, where the site has become a popular attraction.
Since then, the park has helped to introduce fallow deer to other regions, notably Morzine and even the Paris region.
An enchanting setting
The park covers a wooded area of 4,000 m², on the banks of the Chevenne torrent. Thanks to a wire-mesh fence and a naturally fed pond, everything has been designed to ensure the animals’ wellbeing. A 3×3-metre hut allows them to retreat or feed in peace.
A specially laid-out footpath and a small footbridge invite visitors to explore this area up close, allowing them to approach the fallow deer in complete tranquillity and observe their behaviour.

During our visit, we were charmed by the tranquillity of the place, the gentle murmur of the stream, and the graceful movements of the fallow deer in their natural habitat. These majestic animals, curious yet unobtrusive, offer an experience that is both educational and soothing, perfect for families and nature lovers.
The La Chapelle d’Abondance Fallow Deer Park is a place steeped in history and charm, ideal for a family stroll or a break in the countryside. A lovely way to reconnect with the local wildlife whilst enjoying picturesque surroundings.
