Discovering the Chablais Global Geoparkwith Cédric Cordonnier, mediator
- What is a Geopark?
A Geopark is a site or area that brings together geological features of international significance. It is a designation awarded by UNESCO. There are 9 in France and 147 worldwide. Whilst there are no specific measures to protect the designated area, there are numerous initiatives to promote the Geopark and raise public awareness of its natural treasures. - What makes the Chablais Geopark unique?
The entire Alpine range is home to geological treasures. The Chablais, at the north-western tip of the Alps, is home to layers (thrust sheets) that have been transported all the way here, giving it great geological diversity within a small area.
