The Espaces Valléens What is it?

The effects of climate change, the objectives of the energy transition and changes in behaviour present an unprecedented challenge to mountain regions. Against this backdrop, sustainable regional development and a diversified approach to tourism are essential.

In line with the ambition of the Pays d’Évian Vallée d’Abondance Community of Communes to make the ecological transition and sustainable development the guiding principles of our work, we are building our tourism diversification strategy around ‘slow tourism’.

It is with this focus on sustainability and authenticity that our region has joined the ‘Espaces Valléens’ programme, with the aim of promoting the region as a place to live, developing seasonal activities and diversifying the range of offerings to meet our customers’ new expectations.

The label Station Verte

At a time when travellers are increasingly seeking out natural, authentic and sustainable destinations, the ‘Station Verte’ label is a benchmark for green tourism in France.

Destinations around Lake Geneva and in the Chablais region offer exceptional landscapes, local expertise and a wealth of natural resources. Some of our local authorities have been awarded the ‘Station Verte’ label.

But what exactly does this label mean, and why is it important for mountain regions such as those around Lake Geneva and the Chablais?

Let’s protect our mountain lakes – they’re so fragile!

Swimming in these natural lakes is not recommended (including for dogs), and is even prohibited in some places.

This is the case at Lake Darbon, where swimming is now strictly prohibited*.

The same applies to a 200-metre radius around Lake Darbon:

Dogs must be kept on a lead (this area is adjacent to the Cornettes de Bise nature reserve).
Wild camping, bivouacking and campfires are prohibited both day and night.

Any breach of this regulation will result in a fine.
