responsible tourism and sustainable destination

Nestling in the heart of unspoilt landscapes, this area offers a unique experience where sustainable development and responsible tourism are at the heart of every action.

The Chablais Geopark is a remarkable geological area, home to a diversity of unique landscapes and geological formations. The area’s sensitive natural sites are brimming with ecological treasures. From forests to alpine meadows and habitats rich in biodiversity, every corner of our region is an invitation to discover nature with respect.

Limit the impact of your winter sports outings, identify sensitive areas, understand the behaviour and sensitivities of mountain wildlife so that you can take them into account and integrate them fully into your activities, learn to respect them when you come across them… you’ll find it all in these little guides!

The Espaces Valléens What is it?

The impact of climate change, the objectives of the energy transition and changes in behaviour are presenting mountain regions with an unprecedented challenge. Against this backdrop, sustainable regional development and a diversified approach to tourism are essential.

In line with the ambition of the Communauté de Communes Pays d’Évian Vallée d’Abondance to make ecological transition and sustainable development the guiding principles of our action, Leman Mountains Explore is building its tourism diversification strategy around slow tourism.

It is within this framework of sustainability and authenticity that our region has joined the Espaces Valléens programme, with the aim of promoting the region as a place to live, developing seasonal wings and diversifying activities to meet the new expectations of our customers.

The label  Station Verte

At a time when travellers are increasingly looking for natural, authentic and sustainable destinations, the Station Verte label is a benchmark for green tourism in France.

The destinations around Lake Geneva and in the Chablais region boast exceptional landscapes, local know-how and a wealth of natural resources. Some of our communes have been awarded the Station Verte label.

But what exactly does this label mean, and why is it important for mountain areas like those of Lake Geneva and the Chablais?

Green news

Let’s protect our fragile mountain lakes!

Swimming in these natural lakes is not recommended (dogs included), and is even prohibited in some places.

This is the case for Lac de Darbon, where swimming is now strictly prohibited*.

The same applies to a 200-metre perimeter around Lac de Darbon:

  • Dogs must be kept on a lead (this zone is adjacent to the Cornettes de Bise nature reserve).
  • Unauthorised camping, bivouacs and campfires are prohibited day and night.

Any infringement of this decree will be recorded in an official report.
