The current building is the result of several building campaigns, starting at the end of the 12th century, as well as several fires.
Today, only the eastern part of the church can be traced back to the 13th century: this is the developed chevet with seven radiating chapels and an ambulatory surrounding the sanctuary. At the front, the transept dates from the same period and once opened onto a long, wide nave with two or three aisles. However, a serious fire brought it down before 1443....

The Abbey Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Abondance is open daily. The Abondance Abbey cultural site (access to the cloister, part of the former monastery and the orchard) is subject to a charge.
