Meillerie is a small fishing village at the foot of the limestone cliffs. There are still 4 fishermen working here today. The harbor and fishermen’s street bear witness to the village’s strong fishing past.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s visit in the 18th century gave the village a romantic aura, attracting numerous artists who immortalized its landscapes from the early 19th century onwards. However, the history of Meillerie dates back to the 12th century, with the foundation of an Augustinian priory. Today, this former priory remains the most remarkable testimony to the commune’s heritage, and tours are frequently organized with the Pays d’art et d’histoire.
